Exit Interview

An Exit Interview helps you understand your rights and responsibilities as a borrower and must be completed before you withdraw, graduate, or drop below half-time attendance (even if transferring to another school).

  • For Campus Based Loans or Institutional Loans (e.g. Perkins Loan, University Loan, and Hawk Loan), our loan servicer, Heartland ECSI, will contact you with instructions for completing your exit interview. Please call or contact Heartland/ECSI if you do not receive any correspondence from ECSI two to three months after you graduate, please call 888-549-3274 or visit heartland.ecsi.net.

  • For Federal Direct Loans you are required to complete online Exit Interview Counseling at studentaid.gov. Use your FAFSA credentials to login, and take a screen shot of the exit interview confirmation page when you finish for your records.

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) will be notified about your exit interview within 3 business days of completion. If you need a Direct Loan hold released sooner, please send a request to Joann Lim in OFAS at joeunl@uci.edu. Be sure to include your full name and UCI student ID number, and paste the screen shot of the exit interview confirmation page into the body of your message.

Important: Failure to meet exit requirements will result in a hold on your records. An exit hold will prevent access to grades, diploma and transcripts. Re-enrollment and use of various campus services may also be affected.
